I am shocked. Just utterly beffuddled. People who live in the greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area… perhaps all 6 something million of them, don’t know about dungeness crab! I only had two of them over last night (the other is a transplant from Detroit) but they have all 3 lived here for quite some time…

Let me back track a little bit. Spud was out last week and ran into a friend of ours, and somehow (this would be a long winded treck) their conversation turned to crab. Spud mentioned that I had just cooked a live crab the other night, and our friend was immensly curious.

Live crab? Here in Arizona? Where does she get them? What kind are they? How do you cook a live crab?

It was apparent that a Crabfest was in order.

Lucky for me the Asian Store had live crab on sale for only $4.59 per pound!!! I would ordinarily buy 1 crab for each person but spud doesn’t like all of the work, so I bought five of them, about 1.5 pounds each, for a party of 6. Spud got a Filet Mignon, and there was a last minute cancel, so we had 5 crabs for 4 people.

Talk about a feast! It was wonderful!

I showed my friend how to cook and clean a live dungeness crab… which was really fun… And we had mashed potatoes (from the friend that couldn’t come) corn on the cob (frozen, which I will never do again), incredible sourdough bread, and a ceasar salad out of the bag… It was all sooo simple, and yet really looked like a feast on the table….

This is my favorite way to spend time. Have friends over, cook a really great meal, relax, and laugh…

Of course, this morning I was feeling it…
